5 Reasons to Love Working From Home
I worked in an office but I’ve had plenty of opportunities to make extra money by taking in online work that involved creating content and managing social media. In the beginning of 2017, I realized I wanted flexible hours, avoid long and stressful commutes from Cavite to Makati, and find the opportunity to have a career and still be around my family. I knew it was time to look at how I could work at home, given the career path I have followed thus far and the skills I have acquired along the way. Some people wouldn’t entertain the idea; others will maybe let go of both. Starting a full-time work-from-home career is another possible path.
It didn’t surprise me that there are plenty of virtual assistant companies around. Working from home is the dream for millions. Getting started is the tricky part, especially if you’re starting at well, almost zero.
If you are considering working from home or just curious about what it’s like, here are 5 reasons it has worked for me:
You have full control of your own work space
With nobody to steal your lunch, fiddle with the AC or bother you with office rumors, you are free to complete work efficiently and without any disruption.
You get to decide what your working environment is like; listen to whatever kind of music you want, set out your desk and computer however you like, eat whatever you want. What’s not to love?
You save more
The exact amount will differ based on your spending habits and the factors of your daily commute, but the savings from remote work are undeniable. According to research, working from home can save you money you spend for gas; car maintenance; laundry; office lunches and coffee; work clothes; and tax.
This amount may not be life-changing, but it is certainly enough for a vacation or to help make a dent in loan payments. If you’re lucky enough to land a high-paying work from home job, you can change your financial situation in a tremendous way.
You work where and when you like
No more missing PTA meetings or your kid’s sports events, as you can catch up on work anywhere, anytime. You can change your location whenever you want, so you could venture to a café, a library or the beach for a change of scene. As long as you have good internet connection, the possibilities are endless.
You endure less stress
The things that are infuriating about work are often times not the work itself but the minor things like office politics, bad weather, transport strikes, etc. So the chance to focus in a no-nonsense way can definitely appeal to those who are worn-out by the typical ‘nine to five’ slog.
Did you also know that you can cram small housework into a lunch break? You can do quick chores like putting a load of washing on, make a cup of coffee or put the kids to bed.
You can be your own boss
If you are a freelancer, what you say goes. The advantages can include last-minute holidays, closer proximity to the local park and being able to walk your dog during your lunch break, smile while you organize your own schedule! Nobody will tell you what to do. You will love the freedom, so working will always be a pleasure.
I took a different path and joined a VA company instead. It can be difficult to weed out the scams from the legitimate companies and I was lucky enough to have found The VA Hub. Joining the team might be one of the best decisions of my life.
Want to start working from home? Here are some things you need to know:
- The VA Hub wants you to succeed but don’t expect success to be handed to you. You need to work hard for it.
- It doesn’t mean slouching around in your pajamas. The VA Hub believes you should get dressed for the job, it increases productivity!
- Although you will avoid the commuter hell, there are challenges that you must be ready for. From bad internet connection to power outages! Read more about it here.
- You don’t have an IT guy so you have to learn basic troubleshooting.
- Although you will buy Post-Its and notepads, you don’t need a large office or a tall stack of papers. Most work, including note taking and ‘filing’ can be done from a laptop, tablet or smart phone.
- And one final tip…avoiding distractions and procrastination are key to being able to focus when it comes to working from home.
If you’ve been dreaming about working from home, stop hoping and start searching.
